Venue Change

TL;DR: Venue is changing due to construction.

We want to make sure we’re as transparent as possible, and this is one of those kinds of updates. We were informed that the venue (the Sheraton Phoenix Crescent) had a transformer blow out, causing some heavy damage to the electrical systems. Nobody was injured and the reconstruction is repairs are underway, but the Crescent will not open again until August 31st. Our contract allows us to move to another venue if something goes pear shaped, so our event coordinator has reserved all of the event space for us at another location they manage, the Wyndham Phoenix Airport/Tempe, at Broadway and 52nd Street. It’s closer to the East side, but further from the West. For those who remember the venue at the Hilton Garden Inn off University and the I-10, it’s a little further East from there.

More info on table and layout to come.

Kickstarter Complete! Is it August yet?

As the Kickstarter comes to a close, we would like to thank everyone for helping make MaricopaCon X happen this August! Your support has helped us make this convention happen for 10 years!

If you missed out on the Kickstarter, we will have badges for sale online soon.

Before we get into a recap of everything and everyone coming to MaricopaCon this year, here is some of what will happen next:

Kickstarter transfers the funds, then we sign the contract with the venue and pay the bill right there. Hotel booking code will be published to our website soon after that. Our Post-Kickstarter survey will go out to backers. Please fill it out to the best of your ability. We would like to remind everyone that we require a full, legal name for registration that can be validated by any state or federal ID. If you have multiple badges in your pledge, and do not have names for those attendees, use your own name until you have them (hopefully before August 1st, but I will be emailing folks about it). We get our license for Sched.com for the year and send out the URL for game scheduling. If you want to be a GM and run some games, be on the lookout for that! Start the print farm for the VIP character crates. Get supplies, raffle prizes, and anything else we need. We will have a number of new activities this year, so here's the run down:

Escape Room - Hosted by experienced Escape Room designers, every badge holder can go through the escape room as many times as the like. Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator - You and a team take on roles of a starship bridge crew, and must work together to survive the perils of space! Panels - Another first for this year, we will have a small set of panels over the course of the weekend, to answer your burning questions about some topics like Game Design, 3D Printing for Gaming, World Building, and more! Womens+ Gaming Space - Hosted by Do Better Gaming, this space will be for all cis and trans women, and well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space the centers the experience of women. Your regular activities will return, including the Paint & Take table (supported by Reaper Miniatures), the Raffle (see our previous update on the new Raffle format), and the return of your favorite games!

Some of our favorite merchants and exhibitors will be joining us again this year!

Leather Dice Bags will be making a triumphant return with their hand-crafted leather dice bags, trays, and copious amounts of dice! Talarius Gaming - Creators of the d100 based RPG Legends of Kralis will arrive from the southern lands of Tucson! Dark Attic Games is returning with Texas Hold'em with Zombies! Korrosive Games is a first-year exhibitor, with their Fate of Venterra game! Lost Dungeon will be returning with their laser cut and etched wood gaming supplies Silent Service 3D is another first-year exhibitor, providing large format 3D printing services (the printers they have are huge!) We have others on our waiting list, and still awaiting contact from some other merchants, so we'll let you all know once we have the final list!

If you have questions or suggestions, hop onto our Discord and let us know! Or you can email me in confidence directly at bryan@maricopacon.com.

Be well, stay safe, and play games! More updates soon!
